Angelika Nemeth was attracted by the music and movements of belly dance in the 1970s, and took her first class at the Long Beach YWCA with Feiruz Aram. To this day, Angelika loves the movements, the passionate music, the costuming and performing, and the camaraderie among her students and her dance ensemble.She is now recognized as one of the world’s premier Oriental dancers performing and teaching Raqs Sharqi (belly dance). She also teaches folkloric and regional dances from the Arab and Persian world: Debke, balancing dances, Persian Baba Karam and Bandari, Khaleegi, and Saidi cane dance.Her artistic legacy has significantly influenced the field of Middle Eastern dance not only in Southern California but also globally.

She specializes in teaching the classical Egyptian, Lebanese, and American Cabaret styles, providing her students with a solid technical foundation, in a supportive environment that is challenging and fun. She ensures that her students develop an ear for musical structure, and an understanding of the dance’s cultural roots. Her combinations and choreographies are known for their dynamic style, blending traditional forms with a contemporary flair.
Angelika’s Dance Ensemble
Angelika is also the artistic director and choreographer of the internationally acclaimed Angelika Nemeth Dance Ensemble, whose repertoire includes classic and folkloric dances from throughout the Near and Middle East. The Ensemble was honored for performing excellence as “Best Middle Eastern Dance Troupe” by the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance. They have been featured on numerous videos and performed in Cairo, Egypt, at the annual international dance festival, “Ahlan Wa Sahlan”.
Performances
Angelika is invited to perform, teach, and judge several times annually – at festivals, conventions, workshops, and competitions around the United States and internationally. Her performances are earthy and fiery, while also displaying sophisticated expertise and contained passion.She is known for her theatricality, her nuanced musical interpretation, and for engaging the audience with her joie de vivre. Rather than nervousness, she feels excitement and anticipation before each new performance.Angelika has performed since 1974, has danced for royalty and celebrities, and has been featured in settings from intimate supper clubs to large theatre stages. She received the “Best Modern Egyptian Dancer” award by the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance and was nominated for her outstanding achievement in Choreography.
Contact and Class Information
Angelika is on the dance faculty at three Southern California colleges (Orange Coast, Golden West, and Irvine Valley), teaching accredited Middle Eastern dance classes. She was influential in creating Orange Coast College’s World Dance Certificate Program, which she supervises. She also teaches at Tustin Community Services.
