Belly dance is a beautiful art form that embraces everyone at every age, size, shape, and state of mind. Is there anything better? I started out as a jazz and modern dancer but was drawn to belly dance for its complexity of movement, freedom of artistic expression and pure emotional quality. I discovered belly dance through an amazing live performance by the gorgeous dancer, Fahtiem. I was blown away! It was at that time that I was hooked and immediately started training with Fahtiem, Angelika Nemeth and other top instructors and performers in my area. I consider myself a perpetual student, learning from as many sources as possible and developing my style as I grow. A few of my influences are Amani, Nariman Aboud, and Samara from Lebanon, Mona Al Said and Dina from Egypt and the legends– Nadia Gamal (Lebanon) Naima Akef, Samia Gamal, Katy (Egypt) and so many others.
Belly Dance Classes
I love to teach! In my class you will learn proper technique, have fun, and you’ll also get a great workout! Students have commented on how their posture and figures have improved as result of belly dancing. I want each and every student to feel like they are getting the best training possible. I also pay special attention to correcting students as needed – and I make my classes fun! Each class includes warm-up, stretching, core work, drills and cool-down. I work you hard so get ready to sweat and your arms WILL be sore (it’s good for you, believe me!) I also cover veil and cymbal work in some of the more advanced classes. I currently teach classes in Laguna Niguel and Lake Forest, CA. You can learn more about my classes and see a sample instructional video at www.perizaddancer.com.
Performances
My style includes influences from the Egyptian, Lebanese, and Greek belly dance. My shows are high energy and dynamic and I’m known for my timing and rhythm on the zils. I incorporate spins, splits, Turkish drops, backbends and floor work into my dance. Also, I love to get the audience involved and make them part of the show – it’s so fun to see their faces light up when they dance! One thing you learn after years of performing is to “go with the flow.” One time I was performing at an upscale wedding wearing a pair of shoes that were a bit slippery on the freshly waxed dance floor. Well, I went into a spin and – BAM – I fell! I landed on my side but “recovered” well by moving into a floor work routine. The interesting thing is that the experience gave me fresh ideas for floor work, so I was able to pull something positive from the experience. Such is life as a belly dancer! Never a dull moment!I currently stay busy performing at private events and am a regular performer at Sophia’s Greek Cuisine and other restaurants in Orange County.
